This list was created to accompany my YouTube video “German Literature: The Complete Reading List” on my channel Strange Lucidity. I drew inspiration from dozens of sources — especially major books on German and world literature, university reading lists (where available), and material from my own literature courses. I cross-referenced all of this to compile a list of 238 works that, in my view, form the backbone of German literature across the centuries.
